Event write-up: GGDCPT March 2012

The Girl Geek Dinners in Cape Town has proven to be an extremely successful event. With close to 100 women attending each month the popularity of the dinners are quickly increasing. These events create a safe and relaxed environment for women to come together and network over a good meal and inspiring talks.

The second dinner for the year took place last night at Knife restaurant located at The Crystal Towers Hotel and Spa. Although it was a Thursday evening and very bad weather, the turnout was amazing. The dinner was attended by primarily women however there were some guys who came along to show their support for women in the ICT industries.

The speaker for the night was Lynette Anthony Hundermark, Head of Product Strategy at Prezence Digital. Lynette shared her life’s journey with us and what it was that led her to mobile.

Some of the points that she made which left me inspired

  • About not being a stay at home mum – “If I am going to leave my kids for a job, it better be something I am passionate about.”
  • If you feel unappreciated in your current job then leave. There are many people out there who will give you the respect and appreciation you deserve.”
  • “You never know when you will find the right job, it can happen at any unexpected moment.”

The menu for the night was simply amazing. Knife Restaurant really outdid themselves and spoilt us with excellent service and great tasting food. I highly recommend visiting them as they have many specials running.

 The menu

Sticky sweet potato stack with mozzarella and tomato relish

Flame grilled chicken breast, french fries and corn on the cob

Knife’s vegetarian tart with a mixed leaf salad

Mixed berry and cream meringue

As Mariska always says, “no event is complete without a good goodie bag.” Thank you to our sponsors. Without you guys our events won’t be as amazing; Prezence Digital, 2 Oceans Vibe, Bashews, Wings Group, Woman and Home Magazine, Glossy Box, LessFuss, Hout Bay Manor, Quirk, Groupon and SEM Zoom.
