You are kindly invited to the March Girl Geek Dinner Cape Town event of 2013. The theme of this dinner features female software developers and we would like to extend this invitation to students on all levels. Please pass this along to any girls studying computer science or learning to code. We are working towards getting their tickets sponsored as well. Thank You!
Date and time: Tuesday 26th March 2013 | 18h30 for 19h00.
Venue: Salt, Ambassador Hotel, Bantry Bay
Guest Speaker: Shalina Naicker and Lyndsay Lawrence
Cost: R180 for a 3 course dinner, welcome drinks and a goodie bag.
Shalina is currently working as a software developer at Open Box Software After completing her Bsc Computer Science degree at the University of KZN, Shalina started her career in Quality Assurance and was soon intrigued by the mysteries and complexity of software development. After 2 years, she sought opportunities to skill up on current development technologies such as asp.net& c#, and soon crossed over, where she finally found her niche.
Shalina describes the feeling of getting a piece of code to work after hours of frustration and countless debugging efforts, as sweet triumphant victory. This, along with her desire to make a positive impact in people’s daily lives, is her driving force as a developer.
Lyndsay is a Junior Developer at BrandsEye. She is passionate about Education and is the Chair of Project Umonya, which consists of Umonya and Umonya Girls. Umonya is a course that teaches High School children how to program using Python. Umonya Girls teaches girls between 11 and 16 how to build web-pages using HTML and CSS. In her spare time she likes to paint, bake and play boardgames.
Commanding a breathtaking position in Bantry Bay, Salt is an all-round sensory experience. Floor to ceiling glass windows stretch the length of the restaurant, unfolding to reveal the fresh seabreeze and sounds of the crashing waves below.
