Sarah Rice

Sarah RiceSarah is a technology communications specialist with over a decade’s worth of experience.
She ran the IT focused PR agency, Sentient Communications, for almost nine years before shutting it down at the end of 2011. Sarah then worked with 22seven in an eight-month contract to launch the financial services product to the market, after which she joined South African social network, Mxit, as the VP: Communications. After two years as an employee Sarah realised that she was much happier being her own boss so in late 2013 she joined Brendan at Batstone.
In other news she has two kids, an honours degree in Educational Drama, an unhealthy obsession with audible books and finished by studies without the use of ‘The Internet’

Sarah’s Presentation

The role of purpose in your personal career development

In the past 18 months at Batstone I, with my business partner Brendan Wade, have been working with entrepreneurs and their companies in helping them understand their business’s purpose – and then mapping that into what, how and to whom they communicate. What we have learnt is that once companies and their leadership teams truly understand purpose then other business decisions become easier to navigate and understand. I have been thinking about how deeper understanding of each of our personal purposes can make a difference to how we make career choices. This understanding of personal purpose feels particularly critical to those of us who are business owners, freelancers or entrepreneurs where the often conflicting agendas of financial security and ‘what we really want to be doing in the world’ can derail us and send us down paths that don’t ultimately fulfill us. I would like to share some of my thoughts (and hear yours) on how purpose can support us in creating work that supports us as well as share some of the stories of my work and take you through the reflection process that can assist you in finding your personal purpose.
